El Cardenal
Chile, September 1973. In a country with a destroyed government, a figure of a priest searching for justice has emerged. It’s just one man against a regimen, Raúl Silva Henríquez of the Salesians of Don Bosco, who never failed to fulfill the motto ‘Caritas Cristi Urget Nos’ (The Charity of Christ urges us).
The Cardinal Henríquez was a living example of the Catholic Church that fought for the truth when it was needed most. Since his call for priesthood in 1926 until the return of Chile’s democracy in 1990, this graphic novel enlighten the complex personality of someone that understood the holiness as a fight for the oppressed.
This book won the 2018 IBBY Chile prize of Best Graphic Novel.
