Although at the beginning of my career I tried all styles of coloring and worked in different types of comic projects, latest years I’ve mainly focused on comics looks closer to cartoon/anime style and coloring based-in-real-facts comics using textures focusing mainly in mood and depth. I also like to color superhero projects but always avoiding to make them in a realistic style, mainly because in order to see reality we already have live action movies and we’re strugling every day through our own life, right? 😉
Speaking of coloring itself, my main goal is that in comic pages (besides of to complement the artist’aproach off course) is neccesary to add focus and help to read the panels in the right way through the page. Not always the reader is a comic expert.
About coloring references, I like a lot the work (and I try to follow their work buying the comics where they appear) of Gurihiru, Marte Gracia, Matt Wilson, Laura Martin, Justin Ponsor (RIP), Tamra Bonvillain, Matt Hollingsworth, Dave Stewart among others.
Here are some examples of my work with the color styles that I mentioned before (you can check my coloring portfolio in full here) :
Pencils/inks in these comic pages by Pablo verdugo, Alan Robinson, Geraldo Borges, Dexter Wee, Gonzalo MartÃnez, Claudio Muñoz y Diego Toro.
